The Erasmus Prize is awarded to a person or institution which has made an exceptionally important contribution to culture in Europe.

Emphasising the importance of tolerance, cultural multiformity and undogmatic critical thinking, the Foundation endeavours to express these values in the choice of the Erasmus laureates.
